Julie Chrisopoulos is the founder and creative force behind King Protea Design. Her journey began on the island of Rhodes in Greece and has taken her across continents, cultures, and disciplines in pursuit of beautiful, functional design.
After moving to South Africa as a child and completing her schooling between Greece and South Africa, Julie studied architecture at the University of Pretoria. From there, her path led her to Germany, where she completed a Master of Science in Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning at HafenCity University in Hamburg. A keen interest in sustainability and energy-conscious design also saw her attend a specialised programme in Switzerland, focused on renewable energy systems including solar, wind, and geothermal technologies.
But Julie’s curiosity didn’t stop at architecture. A deep love for interiors and visual storytelling led her to Florence, Italy, where she earned a second master’s degree in Interior Design and Graphic Design from the Florence Design Academy. The experience added an artistic layer to her technical background, refining her eye for detail and materiality.
Throughout her studies and travels, Julie worked on residential, commercial, hopspitality and retail projects in South Africa, Greece, and across Europe. These hands-on experiences in different cultural and design environments helped her develop the flexible, holistic approach that defines King Protea Design today.
Julie founded King Protea Designs with a simple but powerful goal: to create spaces that reflect the people who live in them. Her work is grounded in sustainability, shaped by global perspective, and delivered with personal care. Today, she brings her full range of expertise — from architecture to interiors to visualisation — to each and every client, blending form and feeling into something truly lasting.
